Info Skills 101 - Refining Your Query

How do you search? Do you ever to a quick site: limit on Google, or maybe knock out unwanted results with judicious use of "-"?

Some search limits seem to work pretty much everywhere, as this query on Google trends suggests:

harry potter

(The "-potter element says "but not results containg the word 'potter'"...)

I used a similar technique to try to see if the Chrsitmas spikes for the word 'happy' were down to people doing "Happy Christmas" searches...

happy trend

But it seems not...? As this query shows:

happy merry christmas

Merry is very much associated with the phrase "merry christmas"...
